The Bow Hold
Good bow technique revolves around the bow hold. If you're dealing with a bad tone, scratchy sounds, unintentional bounces, lack of control and so on, you need to start by evaluating your bow hold. It's the foundation for all bow technique and advanced concepts.
There's more to a bow hold than the fingers. I want you to think of the bow hold in three parts: the fingers, the wrist, and the elbow. All three should work seamlessly together.

If you want to hear how bows compare, I've recorded several sound samples from a variety of wood and carbon fiber beginner and intermediate bows from Fiddlershop.
I suggest listening to the sound samples before looking at prices, but here links to the various bows I tried out for reference.

A note on MuseScore
I use several programs and tools to make Meadowlark Violin Studio. Some of these tools are great for practicing, like MuseScore, the free music notation software program I use.
MuseScore and other third party apps and programs are not associated with Meadowlark and you do not need MuseScore or other programs to use the Meadowlark Violin Studio. But if you want to use these programs, I include tutorials on how to use these tools to help your practicing.
Please note, downloading and using these programs will vary depending on your computer and operating system. We'll do our best to help you download and use these programs, but sometimes we can't navigate the complex technical issues involved in downloading a third party program on a different computer or operating system than the one we use.
